First-year Arielle deLisser became the first HWS Sailor to win the Faye Bennet Trophy. She sailed to a first place finish in the eighteen boat fleet and qualified for the ICSA Women's Singlehanded Championship in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Senior Kelly Crane sailed to a third place finish, also qualifying for the ICSA Women's Singlehanded Championship. Senior Caroline Patten finished sixth and first-year Brooke Lyon placed eighth. deLisser and Crane will compete for the ICSA Women's Singlehanded Championship hosted at the University of Southern Florida on Nov. 5-7.

The HWS sailing team also competed at the St. Mary's Intersectional, where they earned a third place finish in the 18 boat fleet. Junior Sam Blouin and senior Hannah Littell sailed to a tenth place finish in A division while senior David Thompson and senior Holly Huffine earned a third place finish in B division. Thompson and Huffine's strong finish in the B division was earned by consistent sailing in the 18 race regatta, where they averaged just under a fifth place finish during the entire event.

At the North No. 1, held at SUNY Maritime, the HWS sailors sailed to a first place finish overall and qualified the team for the War Memorial to be held at HWS on Oct. 30 and 31. Junior Austen Anderson, sophomore Bridget Nannig, and sophomore Becca Liggins won the A division with a strong ten point lead over the second place team. In the B division, junior Patrick Kana and sophomore Catherine Pelo sailed to a second place finish, ending up just two points behind the first place team.

The final event of the weekend was the Laser North No. 2. First-year Parick Mignon finished fourth and qualified for the Carl Van Duyne regatta, MAISA's men's qualifier for the ICSA Men's Singlehanded Championship. Senior Ike Babbitt finished fifth, just out of qualifying. First-year John Darby finished eighth and Alex Butti was right behind him finishing ninth.

The HWS sailing team will be back on the water Oct. 2-3 when it competes in New London, Conn. at the Danmark Trophy, and in St. Mary's, Md., at the South Fall No. 1. Sailors will also be competing in Geneva, N.Y. at the Finger Lakes Women's Intersectional.
