ROCHESTER, N.Y.—
The William Smith swimming and diving team lost a hard-fought battle with RIT 126-110 tonight. The Tigers won eight of the meet's 13 events, snapping the Herons' four-meet win streak.

After RIT captured the 400-yard medley relay, Ellen Ellison won the 1,000 freestyle by more than 3.5 seconds over RIT's Jocelyn Bade, posting a winning time of 11:35.31.

The Tigers seized control of the meet by winning the next four events.

Heidi Gordon interrupted the run with a dominating performance in the 200 butterfly, enjoying a nearly 10-second margin of victory behind a time of 2:21.97.

RIT locked up the win with victories in the meet's next three events.

The Herons won the final three events of the night, but ran out of time. Amy Kievit won on the 3-meter diving board with a score of 145.45, Katie Stebbins captured the 200 breaststroke in 2:41.03, and the 400 free relay team of Lia Duffy, Mimi Mahoney, Casey Sherwin, and Amanda Woods posted a winning time of 3:51.06.

William Smith (5-2) will be back in the pool on Saturday, Jan. 29, when they host a tri-meet with Cazenovia and Wells. The Herons will also celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Saturday.
