Heron V8+ keeps Boat of the Week award

For the second week in a row, the William Smith College rowing team's varsity eight was named the Liberty League Boat of the Week by the conference office. The Herons won the Head of the Genesee for the first time on Saturday.

In the morning's 5,000-meter head race, Kim Goral, Lauren Blake-Whitney, Sinead Reilly, Katie Paige, Christine Reighley, Alyssa Trebilcock, Tess Wiggins, Elizabeth Hughes, and Maggie Smith logged a time of 17:39.53, the fastest of the 14 entries. William Smith enjoyed a 14.43-second cushion over the second place boat, Mercyhurst, going into the afternoon's 1,500-meter sprint. The Herons posted the second fastest sprint time, 5:05.19, just 0.3 seconds behind Ithaca.

The afternoon time is tripled and added to the morning time to determine an overall time. William Smith's time of 32:55.1 was more than 23 seconds ahead of the second place Bombers.

The Herons return to the water on Sunday, Oct. 23, when they compete in the prestigious Head of the Charles.
