Box Score

GENEVA, N.Y.—First-year Dineo Mmutla scored two goals to lead the No. 2 William Smith soccer team to a 2-0 win over Union in a Liberty League match played on Cozzens Field this afternoon. The Herons celebrated Homecoming and Family Weekend with their 10th straight win and earned their 13th shutout this season.

Senior goalie Amanda Davis only needed to make one save to secure her 10th shutout this fall. William Smith is now 13-0-1 and 7-0-0 in conference play. Union falls to 12-4-1 and 2-4-1 in the Liberty League.

Mmutla put the Herons up 1-0 at 24:04. She settled a long ball and passed it to junior Renee Jensen. Jensen then flicked the ball back to Mmutla who fired a shot from 18 yards out into the back of the net.

Mmutla struck again in the 64th minute. She maneuvered around a Dutchwoman defender and then sent a shot just inside the left post. Mmutla ranks second on the team with five goals and three assists for 13 points.

Just 5:48 into the game, Mollie Gilchrist had a scoring chance for Union. She fired a shot on goal, but Davis made the save.  The Heron defense only allowed Union to take two shots, with just the one on goal. William Smith recorded 19 shots.

Mia Simone finished with seven saves in goal for the Dutchwomen. The Herons held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

William Smith will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 26, when the Herons will play a non-conference game at Nazareth at 3:30 p.m.
