Statesmen compete in Head of the Charles

BOSTON—The Hobart rowing team competed in the Head of the Charles this weekend. The Statesmen varsity eight placed 10th in the collegiate eights event, while the second varsity eight was 21st in the club eights race.

On Sunday, the Hobart varsity eight covered the 5,000-meter Charles River course in 15:45.85, less than 3 seconds behind ninth place Minnesota and more than two seconds ahead of 11th place Rhode Island. The Statesmen were the top New York State crew, finishing ahead of Marist, Army, Colgate, and St. Lawrence. The boat was powered by Jessica Dinan, Coty Burgess, Robert McNamara, W. Hunter Holtz, Harald Zurakowski, Owen Monahan, Alex Kent, Joe Biesemeyer, and Reid Johnson.

Williams won the club eights race over a field of 40 entries with a time of 15:09.57.

On Saturday, the second varsity eight of Sarah Tanzer, Tyler Wilson-Menting, Nicholas Baca, Michael Cichelli, Nick Hindle, Chris Troy, Jordan Mueller, Chris DePaola, and Michael Copacino turned in a time of 16:43.28, less than three seconds behind 20th place Boston College and nearly two seconds ahead of 22nd place Harvard.

Brown won the club eights race over a field of 39 entries with a time of 15:20.88.

Additionally, Jack Trimble '11, a co-winner of the Babe Kraus Award, competed for USRowing in the championship fours race. His crew crossed the finish line in 16:32.36 to take fifth place in a field of 17.

The Statesmen are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 29, when they compete in the Head of the Fish.
