Hobart squash splits on Day 1 of Navy round robin

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—The Hobart squash team split a pair of matches on the first day of the Navy round robin. The Statesmen defeated Johns Hopkins 8-1, but fell to the No. 15 Midshipmen 9-0.

Against the Blue Jays, McGee O'Neil, Kevin Kent, and Cesar Peralta won in three games at No. 3, No. 5, and No. 8, respectively. Korey Kabot, Daniel Pelaez and Grant Bercari prevailed in four games at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 7, respectively. The other two matches went a full five games. Hobart's Edgardo Gonzalez defeated Peter Wu at No. 4 7-11, 11-9, 13-11, 7-11, 11-6, while at No. 9 Hopkins' Anthony Carbone topped Eric DeRose 7-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-8, 11-7.

In their second match of the day, Hobart lost to undefeated Navy (10-0). All nine matches were decided in three games.

The Statesmen (2-1) will be back in action on Sunday, Nov. 13, taking on Drexel and George Washington at Navy.
