GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College hockey team jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the second period and hung on to top Geneseo 4-2 in a non-conference game played tonight at The Cooler. Four different Statesmen scored in the victory.
Hobart improved to 5-4-0 this season, while the Blue Knights are now 5-6-0 overall. Junior
Brad Richard led the Statesmen with a goal and an assist. Junior
Marty Ausserhofer finished with 21 saves in all 60 minutes in goal for Hobart.
Cory Gershon stopped 27 shots in goal for Geneseo. The Statesmen finished with a 31-23 advantage in shots.
At 16:13 in the first period, junior
Cam Miller scored Hobart's first goal. He stole the puck deep in the zone and faked out the Geneseo goaltender to post the unassisted tally. It was his first goal this season.
At 5:07 in the second period, junior
Brad Richard made it 2-0. Just one second after the Statesmen killed a Blue Knights' power play, junior
Frank Salituro sent a centering pass to Richard who found the back of the net for his third goal of the year. Just 2:04 later, Ciciola stretched the Statesmen lead to 3-0. Ciciola received a pass from Richard and put a shot past the goalie for his fourth tally of the season. He now leads Hobart with 10 points on four goals and six assists.
Jake Yard took advantage of a Geneseo power play to put the Blue Knights on the scoreboard. At 13:57 in the second period, Yard collected a pass from Stefan Decosse and made it 3-1.
At 12:53 into the final period, first-year
Ian Coleman drilled a shot on goal that was saved by the Geneseo goaltender. Sophomore
Keith Clarke got the rebound and capitalized to put the Statesmen up 4-1. The Blue Knights were able to take advantage of another power-play opportunity to make it 4-2 at 13:37 in the third period. Zach Martin logged his first goal of the year off an assist from Jimmy Powers.
The Statesmen were 1-for-5 on the power play, and Geneseo went 2-for-6.
Hobart will take on Buffalo State for another non-conference game on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.
