Hobart splits 2 matches to finish Wesleyan Round Robin

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.—The Hobart College squash team split its final two matches of the 2011 Wesleyan Round Robin. The Statesmen fell 9-0 to host No. 19 Wesleyan this morning and then earned an 8-1 win over Bucknell.

Hobart went 3-1 in the Round Robin this weekend, and improved its record to 8-5.

Against the Bison, the Statesmen recorded wins at Nos. 1-8. Junior Daniel Pelaez defeated Bucknell's Hayden Radovich 11-4, 11-6, 6-11, 11-6 at the top spot. First-year McGee O'Neil won his first match 11-8 and then won by forfeit at the No. 2. At No. 3, senior Kevin Kent edged his Bison opponent in five matches (11-6, 9-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-5).

Junior Edgardo Gonzalez earned an 11-5, 11-4, 10-12, 11-2 victory at No. 4. Sophomore William Boyle breezed to an 11-7, 11-4, 11-1 triumph at No. 5. At No. 6, junior Julian Snider also logged a five-match win (12-14, 11-4, 6-11, 11-4, 11-6).  Senior Grant Bercari rallied to defeat Peter Davis at No. 7 10-12, 11-5, 11-8, 11-9, and junior Eric DeRose posted a 6-11, 11-9, 4-11, 11-6, 11-9 at No. 8.

The Statesmen will be back in action on Jan. 13 when they take on Stanford in the first match of the 2012 Yale Round Robin at 4 p.m.
