Statesmen split two matches over the weekend

The Hobart squash team split a pair of matches this weekend. The Statesmen fell to Cornell 9-0 on Saturday, and defeated the University of Toronto 7-2 this afternoon.

Hobart is now 4-12 overall, and ranked No. 25 in the most recent College Squash Association rankings.

Against Toronto, senior Grant Palermo led the Statesmen with a 3-0 win at No. 2. Senior Luke Esselen defeated his opponent at the No. 3 spot by scores of 11-7, 11-7, 6-11, and 11-9. Sophomore Edgardo Gonzalez also posted a 3-1 victory at No. 6.

First-year Timothy Dyer, senior Carl Ranieri, junior Kevin Kent, and junior Grant Bercari all swept their opponents in three straight games at Nos. 4,5, 7, and 9, respectively.

Hobart will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 16, when the Statesmen host No. 4 Rochester at 7 p.m.
