Miller spotted Stone in a soft spot in the middle of the Loyola zone, the Syracuse, N.Y., native turned and fired home an extra-man goal just before a defender knocked him off his feet. Miller's assist extended his point scoring streak to 23 consecutive games. The Greyhounds countered with three straight goals, but the Statesmen ended the run with another extra-man tally. This time first-year
Alex Love beat Hagelin with a low-to-high shot off an assist from Pedersen.
Just over a minute into the second quarter, Pedersen tied it with a low screamer from the top of the box. After nearly eight minutes of scoreless play, Loyola reclaimed the lead on Matt Langan's score and followed it with three more strikes to stretch the lead to 7-3. Seventy seconds before halftime, Stone stopped the run with a low shot from the left alley, assisted by O'Brien. The Statesmen had the final chance to score before the intermission, but Hagelin stoned Miller on the doorstep.
Hobart struck first in the second half when Bigelow used an inside dodge to get free and scored as he fell to the turf, making it a 7-5 game. Stone cut the lead to one, gathering a diagonal pass from Pedersen, ducked under a check and beat Hagelin as he was pushed into the crease. Miller tied the game with a low rocket from the right alley. Loyola halted Hobart's run at four, reclaiming the lead at the 3:51 mark. The Greyhounds also got a man-up opportunity on a delayed unnecessary roughness call, but Dattilo won the ensuing faceoff and the Statesmen killed off the entire penalty. White tied the game with just eight second left in the third, but Loyola won the ensuing faceoff and fired home a goal with four ticks remaining to give the home team a 9-8 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.
The Greyhounds added a pair of insurance goals in the final frame and killed off a three-minute unreleasable penalty to secure their fifth straight win.
