Flooding wipes out NYS rowing championships

The New York State Collegiate Rowing Championships, originally scheduled for April 30 and May 1 in Whitney Point, N.Y., have been canceled due to flooding. More than two inches of rain have inundated the area, flooding the Whitney Point Reservoir.

The William Smith rowing team won the Liberty League Championship last weekend and moved up one spot to No. 4 in the nation in the latest CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll. The Herons captured a silver and a bronze medal at the 2010 New York State Championships.

The Hobart rowing team also captured the Liberty League Championship last weekend, its sixth consecutive title. The Statesmen captured two gold and a silver medal at the 2010 New York State Championships.

Both teams will be back on the water for the ECAC Championships in Worcester, Mass., on Sunday, May 8.
