Herons cruise to 8-1 win over Nazareth

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith tennis team improved to 9-3 this season with an 8-1 win over visiting Nazareth in a match played today in Bristol Field House. The Golden Flyers are now 8-10 this season.

The Herons started off the afternoon with two doubles wins. Junior Joanie Hilton and sophomore Kiara Ocasio cruised to an 8-1 win over Nazareth's Alison Tepas and Alex Vizgaitis at the top spot. Sophomore Hallsey Leighton and sophomore Remy Raevsky swept Sherrita Wilkins and Jennifer Crane at No.3, 8-0.

In singles, senior Amanda Slack led William Smith edging Tepas by scores of 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 at the No. 1 spot. Junior Casey Kennedy earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2, and Hilton secured her second win of the day, 6-0, 6-1, at No 3. Senior Melissa Slack  breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4, and Leighton triumped at No. 5, 6-3, 6-1. At No. 6, Raevsky blanked her Golden Flyer opponent, 6-0, 6-0.

The Herons will be back in action Sunday, April 10 when they travel to play St. Lawrence at 1 p.m.
