Hobart's Henley run ends against London

Henley Royal Regatta | Temple Challenge Cup Results | Team Blog

HENLEY-ON-THAMES, England—
The Hobart rowing team's varsity eight saw its run at the Royal Henley Regatta come to an end today on the River Thames. The University of London, one of eight seeded crews in the Temple Challenge Cup field of 32, bested the Statesmen by 1 3/4 lengths.

The UL crew raced through the first time check in the lead in a blistering 1:50, just four seconds off the record pace set two races earlier by a Dutch crew. The Londoners stayed in front through Fawley at 3:07 and posted a winning time of 6:36. Reynaldo Kelly, Maxwell Swagler, Gerry Samson, Jack Trimble, Andrew Cobb, Harald Zurakowski, David Roberts, Peter Nettl, and Coty Burgess powered the Statesmen.

Hobart avoided being the first of the six U.S.-based crews to be dispatched by about 95 minutes. Florida Institute of Technology lost to Yale, despite leading the Bulldogs through the Barrier and Fawley.

The renowned Henley is a win-or-go-home regatta, means the loss closes out another highly successful season for the Statesmen. Hobart retained the Statesmen Trophy (vs. Ithaca) and the Seneca Cup (vs. Colgate) and won its sixth consecutive Liberty League Championship.

Hobart is scheduled to return stateside on the Fourth of July.
