Fiorentino scores 3 goals, #7 Statesmen down Continentals 8-1

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College junior Tommy Fiorentino logged a hat trick as the Statesmen hockey team defeated Hamilton College 8-1 in a non-league game played tonight at The Cooler. Fiorentino's three goals match the Hobart record for goals in a game.

It's the second time Fiorentino has recorded a hat trick in his career. Senior Bobby Hannah led the Statesmen four points on two goals and two assists. Sophomore Tommaso Traversa and senior Harry Radovich tallied three assists apiece. Senior Frank Salituro posted a goal and two helpers, and sophomore Robert Sovik recorded goal and an assist.

Hobart is now 7-0-2 overall. It's the first time in program history that the Statesmen have gone unbeaten in their first nine games. Hamilton (0-3-0) dropped its third straight game.

Just 2:32 into the game, Fiorentino scored his first of the night on a tip in right in front of the goal. Traversa and sophomore Terrence O'Neill set up the play. The Continentals came close to scoring with 6:01 remaining in the first. Anthony Ruberto broke away for a one-on-one with Hobart goalie senior Nick Broadwater. Ruberto fired a shot on goal, but Broadwater came up with the save.

With 48 seconds left in the opening period, Fiorentino logged a shorthanded tally to make it 2-0. Traversa pushed a pass ahead to Fiorentino setting up the break away. Fiorentino's first shot was stopped on a glove save by Hamilton goalie Joe Quattrocchi, but he couldn't hang on to it and Fiorentino sent home the rebound.

Hobart continued to dominate notching three more goals in the second period, and outshooting the Continentals 16-5. Just 4:33 into the middle period, Sovik made it 3-0. Hannah sent a pass into Salituro in the right corner, who slid the puck to Sovik who was right out in front of the goal. Sovik fired his shot into the back of the net for his second goal of the season. Hannah logged a goal of his own at 13:46 after quick passes from Sovik and Salituro. With 2:42 left in the middle period, first-year Ben Gamache took a shot from the corner that ricocheted off the goaltender's right pad and into the net. Radovich earned the assist.

At 4:36 in the third, Salituro logged his eighth goal of the year, capitalizing on a power play after passes form Hannah and Radovich. Ruberto took advantage of a Continental power play to put Hamilton on the scoreboard at 5:15. Marko Brehil earned the assist.

At 8:04, Fiorentino scored his third goal of the night and fourth of the season. He tipped the puck in from right in front. Radovich and Traversa logged the assists. Hannah capped the victory with his second of the night at 12:55. Sophomore Peter Ryan set up the play. It was Hannah's sixth goal this year.
