Statesmen fall to #4 Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. –
The Hobart College squash team dropped a match 9-0 to the University of Rochester, who is ranked fourth in the current College Squash Association poll, at the Yellowjackets' Peter Lyman Squash Courts tonight.

The University of Rochester won seven matches by a 3-0 count enroute to their 9-0 victory. The Yellowjackets improved to 8-4. Hobart is now 10-12.

At No. 7, senior Grant Bercari put up a staunch fight against Rochester's Juan Pablo Gaviria. After dropping the first set, 11-5, he won the second, 11-9. Gaviria took the third set, 11-8, for a 2-1 lead and quickly opened an 8-2 edge in the fourth set. Bercari battled back, tying the score at 10, then 11, and staying even until Gaviria put together consecutive points for a 17-15 win.

First-year Cesar Peralta split his first two sets with Rochester's Jesse Cramer at No. 9. Cramer opened with an 11-7 win. Peralta evened matters, 11-6, in set two. Cramer won a pair of tight sets, 11-8, and 11-9, to claim the point.

The Statesmen will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 4 when they host Navy and the University of Western Ontario. Matches will be at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
