GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith tennis team fell to the University of Rochester 7-2 in a match played this afternoon on the indoor courts in Bristol Field House at the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation. The Herons are now 5-2 this season.
William Smith is ranked No. 16 in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Yellowjackets are now 6-2 overall. The University of Rochester was voted No. 12 in the region.
The Herons came out of doubles with one point. Juniors
Hallsey Leighton and
Remy Raevsky posted an 8-3 victory at No. 3. The pair improves to 3-1 at the No. 3 doubles spot. First-year
Haley Wolf earned the only other victory for William Smith. She defeated the Yellowjackets' Cara Genbauffe at No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-3. Wolf is now 5-0 in dual matches and 3-0 at No. 6. Senior
Joanie Hilton and Leighton battled hard at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, but fell to their Rochester opponents in three sets.
The Herons will be back in action on Saturday, March 31 when they host St. Lawrence at the HWS Tennis Center at 11 a.m.
