GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith tennis team dropped a match 7-2 to St. Lawrence this afternoon in Bristol Field House at the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation. The Herons are ranked No. 17 in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and are now 5-3 overall.
St. Lawrence improves to 8-1 overall, and is ranked No. 17 in the most recent regional rankings.
William Smith came out of doubles play up 2-1. Senior
Joanie Hilton and junior
Kiara Ocasio edged their Saint opponents at No. 1, 8-6. The pair improved to 5-2 at the top doubles spot. Juniors
Hallsey Leighton and
Remy Raevsky also notched an 8-6 victory at No. 3. The duo is now 4-1 this season.
The Saints swept singles play to secure their victory. Three Herons battled to three-set matches in singles. First-year
Haley Wolf won her first set at No. 6, 6-2, but was edged 7-5, 12-10 in her next two.
The Herons will host New York University for a match tomorrow, April 1 at 9 a.m. in Bristol Field House.
