PITTSFORD, N.Y.—The William Smith tennis team won its fourth straight match and improved to 9-3 overall with a 9-0 sweep of Nazareth today. The Golden Flyers are now 10-8 overall.
The Herons are ranked No. 19 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Region Rankings.
Senior
Joanie Hilton and junior
Kiara Ocasio came out on top of their Nazareth opponents 8-5 at the top doubles spot. The pair leads William Smith in doubles with a 9-2 record at No. 1 this season. Seniors
Katie Serock and
Jess McCue earned an 8-1 victory at No. 2, and juniors
Hallsey Leighton and
Remy Raevsky also cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 3.
Senior
Casey Kennedy edged her competition 6-3, 6-7, 10-7 at No. 1 singles. She's now 8-4 at the top singles spot this year. Ocasio triumphed 7-6, 6-1 at No. 2, and Hilton downed her Nazareth opponent 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3. Hilton improved to 8-2 at No. 3 this season. At the No. 4 spot, Leighton defeated Sara Yinger 6-3, 6-0. Casey Nicoletti breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5, and first-year
Haley Wolf rounded out the William Smith lineup with a 6-0,4-6, 10-8 victory at No. 6.
The Herons will be back in action on Saturday, April 14 when they host Bard at 11 a.m.
