Herons sweep Cortland 9-0

GENEVA, N.Y.—
The William Smith College tennis team breezed to a 9-0 win over Cortland in a match played today on the indoor courts in Bristol Field House at the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation.

The Herons won their sixth straight match to improve to 11-3 overall. William Smith is ranked No. 19 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Region rankings.

The Herons cruised to a sweep of doubles play. Senior Joanie Hilton and junior Kiara Ocasio blanked their competitors 8-0 at the top spot. The pair is now 14-5 in doubles this season, and have won their last seven matches in a row. Seniors Jess McCue and Katie Serock also earned an 8-0 victory at No. 2. Juniors Hallsey Leighton and Remy Raevsky cruised to an 8-1 triumph at No. 3.

Senior Casey Kennedy defeated Loraine Jelinek 6-3, 6-3 at the top singles spot. Ocasio edged her Red Dragon opponent 7-5, 2-6, 10-5 at No. 2, and Hilton downed Megan Bagg 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3. At No. 4 Leighton topped Amanda Bioglecki 6-2, 6-0, and sophomore Casey Nicoletti downed her completion 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5. Nicoletti has won her last six matches in a row. First-year Haley Wolf swept Jackie Cartwright 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

The Herons will be back on the courts on April 18 when they travel to take on Geneseo at 3:30 p.m.
