TROY, N.Y.—The William Smith tennis team won its eighth straight match today, topping host Rensselaer 7-2 this afternoon. The Herons improve to 13-3 overall.
William Smith is ranked No. 19 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Region Rankings. The Engineers are now 11-4 this season.
The Herons came out of doubles play with two points. The duo of senior
Joanie Hilton and junior
Kiara Ocasio earned an 8-3 win at the top spot, and seniors
Jess McCue and
Katie Serock defeated their competition 8-2 at No. 2. Hilton and Ocasio lead William Smith with a 16-5 doubles record, and McCue and Serock improved to 13-5 overall.
Senior
Casey Kennedy topped Casey Olsen 7-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Hilton notched her second win of the day, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3. Hilton leads William Smith with 18 singles victories this season. Junior
Hallsey Leighton downed her Engineer opponent 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4. At No. 5, sophomore
Casey Nicoletti edged Brianna Dickie 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, and first-year
Haley Wolf defeated Katrina Bohnhorst 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6. Wolf is now 16-3 in singles this season.
The Herons will be back in action on Thursday, April 26, when they host Ithaca in their last match of the regular season at 4 p.m.
