Herons soar past RIT 9-0

GENEVA, N.Y.—
The William Smith tennis team swept visiting RIT 9-0 in a match played today on the indoor courts in Bristol Field House at the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation. The Herons improve to 8-3 this year, and the Tigers are now 1-7 overall.

Senior Joanie Hilton and junior Kiara Ocasio teamed up for an 8-2 victory at the top doubles spot. The duo leads the Herons with an 11-5 doubles record. The pair of seniors Jess McCue and Katie Serock notched an 8-3 triumph at No. 2, and juniors Hallsey Leighton and Remy Raevsky downed their RIT opponents 8-1 at No. 3.

Senior Casey Kennedy cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at the top singles spot. Ocasio earned her second win of the day 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2, and Hilton also notched her second win, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3. She leads William Smith with a 15-4 singles mark this year. Leighton was 2-0 on the day, breezing to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Casey Nicoletti defeated the Tigers' Lindsey Gibson 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5, and first-year Haley Wolf secured the Heron sweep with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 6.

The Herons will be back in action on Wednesday, April 12 when they travel to take on Nazareth at 4 p.m.
