The Hobart College varsity eight won the collegiate eight event for the second year in a row, as the Statesmen went 1-2 in both the collegiate eight and the novice eight races at the Head of the Genesee regatta today.
"This was a very strong day of racing from the team and I was very pleased with the effort of our crews and the depth of our speed today," Head Coach
Paul Bugenhagen said.
The Head of the Genesee combines a morning head race and a 1,500-meter sprint in the afternoon. The sprint time is tripled and added to morning time. The fastest combined time wins.
In the morning head race of the collegiate eight, Hobart A turned in the fastest time, 16:12.11, but was hit with a 30 second penalty that pushed it to second behind Hobart B, 16:27.25. The Statesmen were paired up in the afternoon sprint. Racing on flat water without the morning rain, Hobart B posted the fastest sprint of the day, stopping the clock in 4:41.29. Hobart A was just over two seconds back. Hobart B,Â
