The William Smith College swimming and diving team scored a pair of victories today, defeating SUNY Cobleskill 146-82 and Cedar Crest College 145-36. The Herons used a balanced team effort to win nine of the day's 13 events.

First-year Stefani Schmitz shined, taking part in three victories. Additionally, sophomore Brooke Adams and senior Mimi Mahoney had a hand in two victories.

The Herons won both relays. First-year Kelsey McElwain, first-year Samantha Bowers, Mahoney, and Schmitz captured  the 400-yard medley relay in 4:38.78, 1.11 seconds faster than William Smith's B relay which took second. In the 400 freestyle relay, junior Samantha Burnett, senior Sally Storch, Adams, and Schmitz won in 4:04.76, 11.2 seconds faster than the second place team, which again was the Heron B team.

Schmitz's third victory came in the 200 backstroke thanks to a time of 2:23.53. Mahoney won the 200 free with a time of 2:14.4 with Storch placing second. Adams logged a time of 2:25.59 to win the 200 individual medley.

First-year Kelsey Bohl earned a victory in the 200 butterfly, stopping the clock in 2:21.77. Junior Christine Rhoads led a 1-2-3 sweep for William Smith in the 500 free (5:45.38) with sophomore Cece Carsky-Bush taking second and Mahoney finishing third.

Junior Danielle Bagwin was second to Schmitz in the 200 back and won the 1,000 free, touching the wall in 13:26.02, and first-year Caroline Conboy won the 200 breaststroke in 2:35.84 to round out the Heron victories.

William Smith (4-2) will return to competition on Dec. 6 and Dec. 7 when they compete in the Liberty League Championship meet co-hosted by Rensselaer and Union.
