Geneseo slips past William Smith 5-4

Results

The William Smith tennis team was topped 5-4 by visiting Geneseo in a match played today on the outdoor courts at the HWS Tennis Center.

The Blue Knights are ranked No. 15 in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Herons were slated No. 19 in the most recent rankings.

Geneseo came out of doubles play with a 2-1 lead, earning wins at the top spot and at No. 3. Sophomore Casey Nicoletti paired with first-year Kelley Hartmann for an 8-4 victory at No. 2.

In singles, Nicoletti picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3, and first-year Sydney Arsenault topped her Geneseo opponent 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5.  Senior Hallsey Leighton registered a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 2. The Blue Knights earned wins at Nos. 1 and 6 to tie the overall score at 4-4. It came down to the match at No. 4. Sophomore Haley Wolf won the first set 6-2, but Geneseo's Amanda Rosati rallied to win the second 6-4 and came out on top 6-3 in the third.

The Herons will be back in action on Saturday, April 20 when they travel to take on Union at 12 p.m.
