POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The William Smith College field hockey team was shutout by Vassar 2-0 in Liberty League action this afternoon.

The Brewers (10-1, 2-0) scored two goals in two minutes of game time spanning the first and second half. Vassar opened the scoring in the final minute of the first half. Bianca Zarrella inserted a penalty corner to Haley Merritt who blasted a shot from the top of the circle into the net. In the second minute of the second half, Storm Sideleau sent a cross cage pass to Lauren Wiebe who buried her seventh goal of the year.

The Herons (8-4, 2-2) carried play early in the contest firing six of the game's first seven shots at Vassar goalie Amreen Bhasin. Sophomore
Katie Meyer recorded a team-high five of those shots.

Catherine Hare got the start in goal for William Smith registering 10 saves in the contest including a couple of big saves off of Brewers' penalty corners. Bhasin started in the cage for Vassar making four stops on her way to her sixth shutout of the season.

The Brewers owned the final box score outshooting the Herons 18-7 and earned seven penalty corners to William Smith's two.

The Herons return to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Troy, New York for a 2 p.m. contest against RPI.
