Madeline Buckley led the Herons with three goals.

It was the sixth straight shutout for the Herons who have logged a total of seven shutouts this season. William Smith improves to 8-2-0 overall and 3-0-0 in Liberty League play. The Herons' five goals are the most allowed by Vassar in a game this season. The Brewers (5-3-2, 0-1-2 Liberty) came into today's contest having allowed just four goals all year.

After a scoreless first half, that saw William Smith outshoot the Brewers 10-1, Buckley broke through with her first goal coming in the 53rd minute. Sophomore
Kara Shue crossed the ball from the left side of the field and just outside of the box. Senior
Krista Longo made a smart decision letting the ball pass by her and over to Buckley who sent a low shot into the back of the net to make it 1-0. The Herons scored their first three goals in a span of 9:49 early in the second half to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
Buckley made it 2-0 in the 61st minute. This time she carried the ball deep into the offensive zone on the right side of the field. Her shot from the far right corner curved into the left side of the goal. Just 2:34 later, sophomore
Lauren Randaccio connected off a pass from Shue to make it 3-0. Shue sent a short cross from the right side to find Randaccio just inside the right corner of the box. It was Randaccio's fourth goal this year.

Buckley completed her hat trick in the 73rd minute. Senior
MaryClaire Pelletier pushed a pass from the right side of the field. This time, Randaccio made the smart play to let the ball go so that Buckley could fire home her team-leading eighth goal of the season. With 2:36 remaining, sophomore
Brie Ruane capped the victory with her sixth goal of the season off a pass from sophomore
Shay Callahan.

Nicole McGlinchy played the opening 83:56 in goal for the Herons. She stopped the only shot she faced, the Brewers lone shot on goal, by Rachel Marklyn, which came in the 44th minute from about 30 yards out. First-year
Hannah Fricke came in for the final 6:04 for William Smith. Emma Nichols started in goal for Vassar and made six saves. Stephanie Tapolsky came in for the second half and made four stops.

Vassar's best scoring chance came with 22:53 left in the first half. Jordyn Matthews appeared to have broken through the Heron defense, but McGlinchy came running out of the goal, scooping up the ball before she was able to get a shot off.

The Herons finished with a 25-1 advantage in shots and an 8-0 lead in corners.

William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 11, when it travels to take on No. 25 Union in a Liberty League game at 2 p.m.Â
