Statesmen secure spot in Liberty League tournament with 2-1 win at RIT

The Hobart College soccer team secured a spot in the Liberty League tournament with a 2-1 win at RIT in its final Liberty League and regular season game this afternoon in Rochester, New York. Senior Kyle Herod notched the game winner for the Statesmen in the 85th minute.

With the victory, Hobart clinched the fourth seed for the Liberty League tournament and will travel to take on top-seeded St. Lawrence for a Liberty League tournament semifinal match on Wednesday, Nov. 5. The other semifinal match will be No. 3 seed Vassar at No. 2 RPI. It's Hobart's first trip to the conference tournament since 2011.

The Statesmen completed the regular season with a 12-4-3 overall record and a 4-2-2 mark in Liberty League play. The Tigers wrapped up their season with a 5-12-1 overall record and a 2-6-0 mark in the conference.

Hobart took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick goal by junior Tyler Terens in the 20th minute.  It was his fourth goal this year. Geno Rocco then tied things up for RIT in the 26th minute. His goal came off a feed from Rueben Marquez.

It wasn't until the 85th minute that Herod secured the win for the Statesmen. Junior Marco Ronning earned the assist. Herod tapped in a loose ball inside the box for his third fourth goal of the year. Ronning leads the team with 16 points and eight assists.
