ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Hobart College squash team opened their season splitting its first two matches at the Navy Round Robin this afternoon. The Statesmen fell 9-0 to host Navy before defeating Stanford 8-1.
Against Navy, first-year
Jack Shannon and sophomore
Krittapat Pranich each won a game for the Statesmen. Despite losing at No. 4, Shannon won the first game 13-11. Pranich won the third game 11-8.
In their second match of the day, sophomore
Felipe Pantle led the Statesmen with an 11-8, 11-6, 1-11, 11-7 win in the top spot. First-year
Divine Wing defeated his opponent 11-8, 5-11, 11-4, 13-11 at No. 3 and Shannon won 15-13, 11-5, 9-11, 11-4 at No. 4. Fellow first-year
James Pierpont collected an 8-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-6 win at No. 5 while junior
Danny Cabrera won 11-9, 11-13, 11-7, 11-9 at No. 6. Classmates
Scott Marcus and Pranich won at No. 7 (3-1) and No. 8 (3-0) respectively. Senior
McGee O'Neil easily won at No. 9, 11-6, 11-4, 11-5. Despite losing 3-2 (19-17, 11-13, 12-10, 11-13, 11-7),
Beau Orchard took his opponent to five games.
Hobart will return to action tomorrow, Nov. 16, when they take on Virginia at 9:30 a.m. and George Washington at noon in the second day of Navy's round robin.
