GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College soccer team secured its eighth straight Liberty League Tournament title with a 2-0 victory over St. Lawrence today on Cozzens Field. The Herons, who are ranked seventh in the nation and were the tournament's top seed, improve to 15-2-1 this season and extend their unbeaten streak to 15 matches.

St. Lawrence, the No. 3 seed, finished the season with a 12-6-2 overall record.

Senior
Krista Longo scored what proved to the game-winning goal at 16:30 in the first. She earned a spot on the Liberty League All-Tournament Team and was selected the MVP of the tournament for her efforts. Senior
MaryClaire Pelletier pushed a short pass inside the box to Longo out front. Longo steadied the ball and lifted her shot into the back of the net for her ninth goal of the season. Longo also banged shots off the crossbar once before and once after her goal.

Kara Shue joined Longo on the All-Tournament team. Kelsey West, Emily DePoy, Laura Moore, Adriana Morra and Hannah Merriam represented St. Lawrence on the team.

Shay Callahan gave the Herons an insurance goal in the 82nd minute. Shue drilled a shot on goal that was saved by the St. Lawrence keeper. West couldn't hang on to the ball and it bounced right out to Callahan who sent home her shot to make it 2-0. It was Callahan's second goal of the year and Shue's team-leading 11th assist of the season.

St. Lawrence had one of its best scoring opportunities in the 14th minute. Samantha Rock broke through for the Saints, but Heron first-year goalie
Nicole McGlinchy ran out to dive on the ball before Rock could get her shot off. With forty seconds remaining in the first half, the Saints were awarded a free kick and sent the ball into the box, but what appeared to be an offensive opportunity for St. Lawrence was immediately stifled by the Heron defense.

McGlincy finished with four saves in all 90 minutes in goal for William Smith. West made 13 saves in goal for St. Lawrence. The Herons finished with a 26-5 advantage in shots and an 8-1 lead in corners. It was the 12th shutout of the season for William Smith.
