Herons extend win streak to 5 matches with 5-4 win over Rochester

Results

The William Smith tennis team extended its win streak to five straight matches with a 5-4 victory over Rochester tonight on the indoor courts in Bristol Field House. The Herons are now 6-1 overall, while the Yellowjackets fall to 3-5 overall.
 
It's the Herons first win over Rochester since 2005. On Oct. 9, 2005, William Smith defeated the Yellowjackets 5-1 in Liberty League women's tennis tournament.
 
Tonight with the match tied up at 4-4, it all came down to the No. 6 singles spot. Sophomore Charlotte Federowicz clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph.
 
The Herons came out of doubles play up 2-1. First-years Ashley Lyon and Hannah More earned an 8-6 win at the top doubles spot and Federowicz teamed with sophomore Kelley Hartmann for an 8-5 win at No. 3.
 
More earned a 6-2, 7-6 victory at the top singles spot and senior Casey Nicoletti registered a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5. Rochester posted wins at Nos. 2-4 to knot the match at 4-4, but Federowicz clinched the victory for the Herons with her win at No. 6.
 
William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, March 29, when it hosts RIT in Bristol Field House at 10 a.m.
