The William Smith tennis team will compete in the 2014 Liberty League Women's Tennis Tournament this weekend, April 26-28. Matches will be played on St. Lawrence's Sammis Courts in Canton, N.Y.
The Herons bring a 13-4 overall record into the tournament and are the No. 5 seed. William Smith is ranked No. 17 in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Herons will face No. 4 seed Rensselaer in their first round match on Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m.

Rensselear brings a 9-4 record into postseason play. The Engineers are ranked No. 16 in the Northeast Region Rankings. RPI closed out its regular season back on April 14, with an 8-1 victory over Union. The Engineers and the Herons last met on April 12 in Geneva, N.Y. RPI slipped past the Herons with a 5-4 victory. William Smith had built a 2-1 lead in doubles and earned wins at Nos. 1 and 3 singles, but the Engineers secured the win with victories at Nos. 2,4,5, and 6 singles.
Skidmore (14-3) is the tournament's top seed and will take on No. 8 Bard (7-6) on Saturday at 9 a.m. The Thoroughbreds are ranked No. 6 in the Northeast Region and No. 14 in the nation. No. 2 Vassar (11-5), who is ranked No. 11 in the Northeast and No. 29 in the country, will face No. 7 RIT (1-7) at 2 p.m. and No. 3 St. Lawrence (15-3) will square off with No. 6 Union (8-4) at 4 p.m. The host Saints are No. 13 in the Northeast Region.
The semifinals will begin at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, and the championship match will take place on Monday, April 28 at 10 a.m.
