SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Hobart College squash team finished the 2015 Pioneer Valley Invitational with a 2-1 record after beating both Stanford and Bowdoin this afternoon. With the two victories, the Statesmen improve to 7-5 on the season.

Hobart opened the tournament on Friday with a match against Colby College. The Mules beat Hobart 9-0 with only two matches going to five games. First-year
Jack Shannon took his opponent to the fifth game after winning games two and three. Junior
Danny Cabrera also went to five games against Colby after winning the first and fourth games.

Hobart's first match this afternoon pitted them against Stanford who they had defeated 8-1 earlier this year. The Statesmen matched that score besting the Cardinal 8-1.
Beau Orchard, Cabrera, and
Felipe Pantle's matches all went five games. Orchard won at the No. 2 spot 11-6, 8-11, 11-9, 1-11, 12-10, Cabrera edged his opponent, 11-5, 7-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-8 while Pantle dropped his match at No. 1, 0-11, 6-11, 11-3, 11-5, 5-11. First-year
Greg Dolente beat his opponent at No. 3 11-9, 8-11, 12-10, 11-5. Sophomore
Terrance Rose,
Divine Wing, Shannon and first-year
James Pierpont all won 3-0 at No. 4, 5, 6 and 7 spots respectively.

In their last match of the weekend the Statesmen defeated Bowdoin 5-4. Hobart won at the Nos. 2, 5, 6, 8 and 9 spots while the Polar Bears won at Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 7. Orchard, again playing at No. 2, winning 11-9, 12-10, 11-6, Wing won 3-1 at No.5, 11-5, 11-9, 10-12, 11-9, Shannon swept his match at No. 6, 11-8, 11-8, 14-12, Cabrera topped his opponent in five games 11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 7-11, 11-6, and sophomore
Scott Marcus won his match at No. 9, 12-10, 11-7, 6-11, 13-11.

Hobart returns to the court next weekend, Jan. 24-25 at the 2014 Wesleyan Invitational. The Statesmen will square off with Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Boston University on the 24th and will face host Wesleyan and Connecticut College on the 25th.
