The Hobart College hockey team played to a 1-1 overtime tie with the University of New England in a non-league game tonight in Biddeford, Maine. The Statesmen are now 0-1-1 this season.
It was the season opener for the Nor'Easters. After two scoreless periods, junior
Mitch Beyer broke through for Hobart with 9:58 left in the third period. Beyer's goal came on the power play and off an assist from junior
Connor Simon. Ben Pearl tied things up for the University of New England with 3:46 left in regulation, sending the game to overtime. The Nor'Easters also scored on the power play. Brady Fleurent earned the assist.
Both teams were unable to net the game winner through five minutes of overtime. The Statesmen finished with a 36-29 advantage in shots. Hobart was 1-for-6 on the power play, while the University of New England was 1-for-5.
Senior
Lino Chimienti played all 65 minutes in goal and made 28 saves. Mason Riley finished with 35 saves in goal for the Nor'Easters.
The Statesmen are back in action on Friday, Nov. 6, when they host Manhattanville for an ECAC West game at 7:30 p.m.
