The Hobart College squash team begins the 2015-16 with its annual trip to Annapolis, Md., for the Navy Round Robin. On Saturday, Nov. 14, the Statesmen will play George Washington and Virginia, and will then play Navy and MIT on Sunday, Nov. 15.
Head Coach
Tim Riskie begins his fifth season at the helm for the Hobart squash program. Under Riskie, the Statesmen have posted a 41-56 overall record. This year's squad returns eight players from last year's team that was 11-11.
Senior
Danny Cabrera is back for his fourth season. Cabrera posted a 9-11 record last year and was a strong option in the middle of the lineup for Hobart. The Statesmen will look to him for his experience and leadership.
Juniors
Beau Orchard,
Felipe Pantle, and
Terrance Rose provide top of the lineup experience this year. They played every match at the top of the rotation for the Statesmen last year. Orchard was 8-7 at No. 2 and played five matches in the top spot. Pantle was 5-11 in 16 matches at No. 1 for Hobart. Rose, a mid-year transfer was 5-8 at Nos. 2-4. Rose represented the Statesmen at the College Squash Association Individual Championships last year.
Hobart returns four sophomores,
Cameron Adams,
James Pierpont,
Jack Shannon, and
Divine Wing. Pierpont was 9-12 last year, including 4-2 at No. 5. Shannon won the Rookie Award for Squash in 2014-15 and recorded a team-high 11 wins. Shannon was a solid middle of the lineup player for the Statesmen. Wing won one Liberty League Performer of the Week and one Liberty League Rookie of the Week award last season. He shared a team-high 11 wins with Shannon.
First-years
Matthew Frantz,
Gabe Garcia,
Ilyas Khan, and
Josh Oakley will look to add depth for Hobart this season.
The Statesmen will play George Washington at noon and Virginia at 5 p.m. on Saturday and then face Navy at 9:30 a.m. and MIT at Noon on Sunday.
Following the Navy Round Robin, Hobart will play a pair of games against Middlebury and Hamilton at Hamilton to close out 2015. The Statesmen will be back on the courts on Jan 15 for the Pioneer Valley Invitational. The 2016 Liberty League Tournament will take place in February. Hobart's lone home match will be Sunday, Feb. 14, against Bates.Â
