BRONX, N.Y. -Â The William Smith College tennis team was edged 5-4 by New York University at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, New York, this afternoon. The Herons fall to 3-4 on the season while the Violets improve to 2-1.

Ashley Lyon put up a tough fight at No. 2 before falling 8-6. The Violet team of Nicole Schnabel and Jazmin Colling outlasted William Smith junior
Sydney Arsenault and sophomore
Annie Venditti 9-7 at No. 3.
The Herons staged an impressive rally in singles play. William Smith won four of the six singles matches. Lyon topped Mari Tzakis 6-3, 2-6, 10-3 at No. 2 while Denton won her sixth straight match, 6-3, 2-6, 10-8, at No. 4. Arsenault and Venditti won in straight sets over their NYU opponents at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively. The Violets earned the overall victory winning at Nos. 1 and 3.
William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, April 4, when it faces Vassar at the HWS Tennis Center.
