GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team secured its third straight victory with a 2-1 win over Rochester in a non-league game played on a rainy Cozzens Field this afternoon. The Statesmen are now 4-1-0, while the Yellowjackets fall to 1-2-1.
Â
Both teams battled through poor weather conditions in a closely contested game. The Statesmen finished with a slight 13-12 advantage in shots and both teams earned six corners.
Â
Sophomore
Joseph Escamilla put Hobart on top in the 32nd minute, when he slid a shot into the back of the net in a huge scramble right in front of the goal. In the 71st minute, sophomore
Patrick Schulz gave the Statesmen a 2-0 advantage after he took the ball from a Rochester defender and broke into the box.
Â
Just 2:33 later, Hobart was called for a foul in the box and the Yellowjackets were awarded a penalty kick. Ben Swanger took the kick for Rochester and drilled his shot to get his team within one goal. However, the Statesmen defense held strong in the final minutes of regulation to clinch the win.
Â
Senior
Tyler Serafine played all 90 minutes in goal for Hobart and made three saves. Redd Brown played the entire match for Rochester and stopped four shots.
Â
The Statesmen will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 19, when they host Geneseo for a non-league game at 2 p.m. during Hobart Soccer's Alumni Weekend.
