GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team scored late in the first half and added an insurance goal in the second to down Geneseo 2-0 in a non-league game played this afternoon on Cozzens Field. The Statesmen improve to 5-1-0 this season.

The Knights suffered their first loss of the year and are now 3-1-3 overall. Senior
Tyler Niles broke through for Hobart in the 42nd minute. It was his second goal of the season. Junior
Joe Busuttil had carried the ball into the box. He blasted a shot on goal that was saved by Genesoe keeper Logan Calvey. Calvey couldn't hang on to the ball and it bounced around in the box. It eventually came to Niles who settled it and lifted his shot into the top of the goal to give the Statesmen a 1-0 advantage.

Sophomore
Zach Poretz also notched his second goal of the season in the 50th minute for Hobart. Senior
Tyler Terens pushed a cross into the box from the deep left corner. He found Poretz out in front who tapped in his shot to make it 2-0.

Geneseo's best scoring chance of the game came in the 89th minute. Austin DeRidder drilled a shot on goal from just inside the box. Hobart senior goalkeeper
Tyler Serafine had to dive to his left to come up with the stop and preserve his shutout. It was Hobart and Serafine's second shutout this season. Serafine finished with two saves in all 90 minutes of play. Geneseo's Calvey made six saves in all 90 minutes.

The Statesmen finished with a 15-6 lead in total shots and a 6-2 edge in corners.

Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 26, when they travel to Union to open Liberty League play at 3 p.m.
