The No. 8 William Smith College soccer team picked up a non-conference win on the road tonight, topping Fredonia 1-0. The Herons improve to 2-1-1 overall, while the Blue Devils are now 1-5-0 this season.

Kara Shue notched the game-winning goal for William Smith in the 59th minute. Junior
Brie Ruane sent a cross to Shue who scored on a one-timer. It was Shue's first goal of the season. The Herons dominated play, finishing with a 36-4 advantage in shots and a 10-0 lead in corners.

Kaileen Murray played all 90 minutes in goal for William Smith. She stopped the lone shot she faced to register her second shutout of the year. Kendall Owczarzak played the entire match in goal for the Blue Devils and made 13 saves.

The Herons will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 19, when they compete in the Upstate Collegiate Cup hosted by the University of Rochester. William Smith is scheduled to take on Ithaca in its first game at 6:30 p.m.
