Records fall as Herons beat Cazenovia, Wells

GENEVA, N.Y. – The William Smith College swimming and diving team collected two Bristol Pool records and one school record as they notched a double dual meet victory over Cazenovia and Wells at Bristol Pool this afternoon. Junior Caroline Conboy had a hand in all three records for the Herons.

William Smith, who is now 8-2 in dual meets, started quickly. The 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Katie Storch, Conboy, sophomore Emily Haskins, and junior Kelsey Bohl set a new Bristol Pool record, stopping the clock with a time of 1:53.81. They finished first in the event, 12 seconds ahead of the second place relay team. In her only individual event of the day, Conboy lowered a 15-year old record in the 100 individual medley. She touched the wall with a winning time of 1:02.06, lowering the previous record by four-tenths of a second. In the final women's event of the afternoon, Conboy, Storch, first-year Nicole Katchis, and first-year Kelley Mantz, broke a 22-year old Bristol Pool record. The Heron team stopped the clock at 8:16.95.

The Herons touched the wall first in all but two events. Katchis collected an individual win in the 1650 freestyle with a 19-second victory. Haskins placed first in the 200 free, stopping the clock at 2:08.86. Bohl and first-year Therese Mandracchia finished 1-2 in the 50 freestyle while Mantz and Haskins placed 1-2 in the 100 freestyle.  Storch notched an individual win for William Smith in the 100 backstroke with a five-second victory. Sophomore Ava Lillian won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:19.80.

On the diving board, Mandracchia won both the one and three-meter competitions. On the one-meter, she posted a winning score of 218.70. On the three-meter she turned in a winning performance of 207.50. First-year Emily Wilkinson was second on the one-meter board with a score of 178. 25, while Hannah Schley was second on the three-meter.

William Smith bested Cazenovia 153-75 and swam past Wells 165-52.
