Shue ties career assists record, Herons top RPI 1-0

The No. 1 William Smith College soccer team picked up its 10th straight win, topping Rensselaer 1-0 in a Liberty League game played today at the Engineers' East Campus Stadium in Troy, N.Y. Senior Kara Shue assisted on the lone goal to tie the William Smith career record for assists and reach 100 career points.

The Herons are now 10-0-0 and 3-0-0 in the Liberty League, while the Engineers, whose coaching staff features two former Herons, Head Coach BreLynn Nasypany '11 and Assistant Coach MaryClaire Pelletier '15, fall to 8-2-0 and 1-1-0 in conference play.

Senior Brie Ruane scored the game winner for William Smith. It was her fourth goal this season. She collected a pass from Shue in front of the goal and found the back of the net just 15:03 into the match. Shue now has 40 career assists which ties her with Antoinette DeLucia '00 for the Heron career record. Shue's 100 career points puts her tied for sixth on the William Smith career points list. She's the seventh soccer Heron to reach the milestone.

Sophomore Veronica Romines played all 90 minutes in goal for William Smith and stopped the only shot she faced to secure her third shutout of the season. Joey Lyons made nine saves in goal for RPI. The Herons held a 20-2 lead in shots, including an 11-0 advantage in the second half. William Smith earned nine corners, while the Engineers had just one.

The Herons are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 5, when they host Geneseo for a 7:30 p.m. non-league match on Boswell Field.
