GENEVA, N.Y.—The No. 1 William Smith College soccer team picked up its 13th straight victory, cruising to a 7-0 win over Bard in a Liberty League contest played on Cozzens Field this afternoon. Sophomore
Phoebe Wade scored twice, junior
Evie Manning added a goal and an assist, and junior
Theresa Lohr notched two assists in the win.
The Herons are now 13-0-0 overall and 5-0-0 in conference play, while the Raptors fall to 7-6-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the Liberty League.
Six different Herons scored in the win and 10 earned at least a point. It's William Smith's seventh straight shutout and ninth of the season.
Manning started the scoring with her eighth goal of the year just 5:31 into the contest. Lohr sent a cross from the right side, and Manning pushed a low, rolling shot into the back of the net. In the 34th minute, sophomore
Sarah Olick-Sutphen sent a crossing pass from the right side to find senior
MacKenzie Smith who fired home her first goal of the year to make it 2-0.
First-year
Elizabeth Moore gave the Herons a 3-0 lead with her first collegiate goal in the 54th minute. Manning earned the assist on Moore's header goal. In the 63rd minute, junior
Katherine Campbell extended the William Smith lead to four, blasting a shot from about 30 yards out into the back of the net. It was her first goal of the season. Just over four minutes later, senior
Lauren Randaccio scored through traffic in front off a pass from classmate
Ella McMackin. Back-to-back goals by Wade rounded out the scoring. Lohr set up the first, and sophomore
Kristina Camaj earned the assist on Wade's second goal.
Bard had a chance to make something happen offensively with three minutes to go in the first half. Susan Andreas sent the ball into the box, looking for Katie Hopper, but Heron goalie sophomore
Veronica Romines came running out to break up the play before the Raptors were able to get a shot off. Romines played the opening 60:54, and first-year
Alessandra Bryan came in for the final 29:06 for William Smith. Kelsey O'Brien finished with 11 saves in all 90 minutes for Bard.
The Herons recorded a 33-0 advantage in shots and a 10-0 lead in corners.
William Smith will be back in action tomorrow, Oct. 15, when it hosts Vassar for another Liberty League match at 2 p.m.
