GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team scored two first half goals and hung on for a 2-1 victory over Ithaca College in a non-league game played today on Cozzens Field. The Statesmen are now 4-4-3 overall.
The Bombers fall to 4-6-0 this year. Just 7:25 into the game, senior
JP White put the Statesmen on the scoreboard. First-year
Cooper O'Connell sent a pass from the left side across the front of the goal, and White was there to tap it in for the goal. It was White's third goal this season.
Junior
Patrick Schulz gave Hobart a 2-0 lead in the 38th minute. This time it was fiirst-year
Binjo Emmanuel who sent a cross from the left side to find Schulz streaking into the box. He took advantage of the Ithaca goalie being out of position and scored in an empty net. It was his first goal this season.
The Bombers came out strong in the second half, recording a 7-3 advantage in shots. In the 60th minute, the Statesmen were whistled for a foul in the box, and Ithaca was awarded a penalty kick. Sam Boylan stepped up and blasted his shot into the back of the net to cut the Bombers' deficit to one.
With 27:53 to go, Ithaca came close to tying up the game. Boylan slid a pass to Eric Hepler who broke by his defender. He drilled his shot just wide of the far left post. The Statesmen also came inches away from scoring late in the game. With 8:27 to go after a corner, junior
Joseph Escamilla's header sailed just high over the crossbar.
The Bombers finished with a 10-7 edge in shots and a 5-1 lead in corners. Sophomore

The Statesmen will return to Liberty League play on Saturday, Oct. 8, when they host Clarkson at 3 p.m.
