GENEVA, N.Y.-The 13th-ranked William Smith College field hockey team capitalized on four first half goals as they defeated Ithaca 6-2 in non-conference action on McCooey Field this afternoon. Five Herons recorded at least a point in the victory.
Â
William Smith (9-3) opened the scoring in the ninth minute when junior

Alexandra Frary was credited with an assist after playing give-and-go with Wood at the top of the arc. The goal came on the Herons' first penalty corner of the game.
Â
William Smith doubled its lead in the 14th minute when junior
Katie Meyer collected her second goal in as many games. She received a pass from sophomore
Fallon Adair at the 25-yard line, dribbled the ball into the 16-yard arc, deked around Lass, and fired the ball into the empty net. Sixty-two seconds later Meyer returned the favor, setting up Adair's fourth goal of the season. Meyer sent a pass to Adair, who turned her defender and shot the ball into the cage.

Frary's fourth goal of the season gave William Smith a 6-0 lead. Off a penalty corner, sophomore
Sierramarie Fitzgerald blasted a shot from the top of the arc. Frary, who was streaking in from the right side of the cage, set up a screen in front of Lass and redirected the shot into cage.
Â
Ithaca (5-5) did not go quietly. In the 60th minute, Cassie Schuttrumpf forced a turnover in her attacking half, and fired a shot from the right side of the 16-yard arc that just beat
Biz Chirco's outstretched pad. Colleen Keegan-Twombly redirected an Amanda Schell shot past Chirco to make it 6-2.
Â
Chirco played all 70 minutes in goal for William Smith and made three stops. At the other end of the field, Lass recorded a season-high 19 saves.
