GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team scored a season-high 95 points while limiting Ithaca College to a season-low 66 to earn its fourth consecutive win today. Sophomore guard
Colin Dougherty produced game-highs with 18 points, five assists, and three steals.
Hobart got a double-double from first-year forward
Sam Allen on 11 points and a season-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard
Jamal Lucas notched 14 points and a pair of blocked shots. Sophomore forward
Matt Walsh made three 3-pointers on his way to 13 points. First-year forward
Edens Fleurizard chipped in six points and a season-high 10 boards.
The 95 points are the most by a Hobart team since scoring 113 against Rensselaer on Jan. 25, 2014. The Statesmen also posted season-highs with 39 field goals made, 13 3-pointers made, 59 rebounds, and 17 assists.
In the first half, Hobart (5-2) committed just three turnovers, outscored Ithaca 26-6 in the paint, dominated the glass to the tune of 25-16, and outscored the Bombers 14-2 in second chance points. The Statesmen shot 47 percent from the field with five 3-pointers. Dougherty led all players with 13 points and three assists at the break. Walsh was close behind with 10 points.
Hobart seized control of the game with a 10-2 run that inflated a 4-point advantage to a 19-7 lead. Ithaca was able to close the gap to 7 on a 3-pointer by Joey Flanagan (11 pts) midway through the opening half, but the Statesmen countered with the game's next 9 points to push their lead back into double digits. First-year
Tucker Lescoe led that charge with five of his eight points, including a triple, to cap the run.
Ithaca (4-5) struggled to make shots inside the 3-point arc, shooting just 23 percent (3-13), but stayed close thanks to a 7-of-16 performance from deep. Matt Flood was 4-of-7 from 3-point range and led the Bombers with 12 first half points on his way to a 15-point game.
Hobart took a 44-33 lead into halftime.
After the intermission, Flood notched a traditional 3-point play to make it an 8-point game, but a 12-0 run by the home team squashed the Bombers hopes of a comeback. Fleurizard, Lucas, and Ruddy accounted for all 12 points in the surge with each man scoring a pair of field goals. The Statesmen led by as many as 34 down the stretch.
For the game, Ithaca shot a season-high 35.6 percent from the field and 32.1 percent from beyond the arc.
Hobart will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 29, when the Statesmen play in the "Mose" Hole/Kiwanis Classic hosted by The College at Wooster. Hobart will take on the host Scots in the first round at 7 p.m. and taken on Ohio Wesleyan at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 30.
