GENEVA, N.Y. – The William Smith tennis team dropped its first match of the spring season 8-1 to No. 16 Skidmore in Bristol Field House this afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a sweep of doubles. Skidmore won 8-1 at No. 2 and 8-3 at No. 3. In the top spot, junior

Alex Greenberg put up a strong fight, but Michelle Fuca and Brianna Greene emerged victorious 8-6. The match was tightly contested to the last point.

Brianna Greene clinched the match at No. 2 for the Thoroughbreds with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. More collected the lone win for the Herons in No. 1 singles. She rallied to beat Danielle Glanetti in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

William Smith will be back in Bristol Field House next weekend. The Herons host NYU on Friday, March 4, in the first of three home matches. RIT will come to Geneva on Saturday, and William Smith will play Ithaca on Sunday.Â
