Statesmen defeat Potsdam 2-1 in OT

The Hobart College soccer team defeated Potsdam 2-1, notching the game-winning goal on a penalty kick 6:11 into overtime in a non-league game played this afternoon on Cozens Field. Junior Adrian Colmenares converted the PK to secure the Statesmen's first win of the season.

Hobart is now 1-3-1, after serving the Bears (4-1-1) their first loss this year. Sophomore Alec Kaminer got his first career start in goal and finished with five saves, including two big stops in overtime, playing all 96:11. Nick Davies made six saves for Potsdam.

The Bears got on the scoreboard first 15:23 in. Connor DeSantis took a pass from Chris Schrum and found the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage. Junior Nick Dosky evened the score for Hobart in the 51st minute. He took a cross from sophomore Mitch Palmer on the right side and one-timed his shot form right in front. It was Dosky's first goal this season.  The Statesmen came inches away from getting the game winner with about two minutes left in regulation. Senior Joseph Escamilla had a header off a corner go just inches high of the crossbar.

The Bears came out strong in the overtime period. Justin Kellett broke through the Hobart back line for a one-on-one with the keeper 4:27 into the extra period. Kaminer came running out to play the ball and stifled the scoring chance just as Keller got his shot off. Brandon Laurin followed with another shot on goal just over a minute later, but Kaminer once again made the stop.

The Bears were whistled for a foul in the box, resulting in the penalty kick, which Colmenares drilled into the back of the net to clinch the win for Hobart.

The Statesmen finished with a 26-8 advantage in shots and a 9-1 lead in corners.

Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 17, when they travel to take on Geneseo in another non-league game at 7 p.m.
