The William Smith College soccer team will compete in the Upstate Collegiate Cup this weekend. The Herons will begin the weekend tournament taking on the University of Rochester on Saturday, Sept. 17 in Ithaca, N.Y., at 2 p.m.

The Bombers will face Cortland to open the tournament on Saturday at 11 a.m. Winners of each of Saturday's games will advance to the championship match. On Saturday, both Upstate Collegiate Cup games will be played on Ithaca's Carp Wood Field, but on Sunday, Cortland will play at home and Ithaca will play at home. Both Sunday games are set for 2 p.m.

The Herons, who are ranked No. 1 by D3soccer.com and No. 2 in the NSCAA poll, bring a 5-0-0 record into the weekend and are the defending champions. William Smith defeated Ithaca 2-0 and Rochester, 1-0, in Rochester, N.Y., in 2015 to earn the Cup. Senior
Kara Shue leads the Herons with 13 points on five goals and three assists. Senior
Ella McMackin has also dished out three assists. All three of William Smith's goal keepers have seen playing time this fall.

Rochester has a 0-2-2 record. The Yellowjackets are coming off a 1-0 loss to Union last Saturday. Hannah Wadsworth has scored Rochester's only goal and McKenzie Runyan has one assist. Samantha Hlavac has played the most minutes in goal. She's sporting a 0.36 goals against average and a .833 save percentage.

Ithaca, which is ranked No. 10 in the D3soccer.com poll and No. 18 by the NSCAA, has a perfect 4-0-0 record, and has not allowed a goal this season. Jocelyn Ravesi leads the team with eight points on three goals and two assists. Stacey DiGiorgia has played the majority of time in goal.

Cortland brings a 3-1-0 record into the tournament. Gabrielle Mudaro has recorded a team-high seven points on two goals and three assists. Victoria Barclay has seen the most time in goal. She has registered a 1.13 goals against average and a .600 save percentage.
