Former Hobart College offensive tackle and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard
Ali Marpet '15 was the second highest rated offensive player for the Bucs during the 2016 season. His 84.5 rating by Pro Football Focus trailed only Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Evans (93.3).
PFF graded Marpet at 84.4 in run blocking and 84.1 in pass blocking, both tops among the Bucs' offensive linemen. He was one of only two Tampa Bay offensive linemen to play every offensive snap this season. In fact,
Tampa Bay Times staff writer Greg Auman noted that not only did Marpet play all 1,075 offensive snaps across 16 games, but he also was on the field for all 65 kicks (PATs and field goals). Only five guards in the NFL played more snaps this season, according to PFF.
Tampa Bay was 9-7 this season and finished second in the NFC South, losing a tie-breaker to Detroit for the sixth and final spot in the NFC playoff field. The Buccaneers were 6-10 in 2015, Marpet's rookie season. He started 13 games during his rookie season, missing three due to an ankle injury.
Marpet was taken by the Buccaneers in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft with the 61st overall pick, the highest a Division III player has ever been selected.
A three-year starter at Hobart, Marpet was a team captain as a junior and a senior. He was named a 2014 All-American by the AFCA, the Associated Press, and D3football.com. Marpet was the 2014 Liberty League Co-Offensive Player of the Year and a three-time first team All-Liberty League selection. He did not allow a sack as a senior on a line that was sixth in the nation in fewest sacks allowed.
In his four seasons at Hobart, Marpet and his classmates posted a 41-5 record and captured four consecutive Liberty League Championships. The Statesmen also appeared in four consecutive NCAA Division III Football Championships, and reached the quarterfinal round in 2012 and 2014.
