CANTON, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team shot a season-high 53.6 percent from the field, but it wasn't enough to slow down Liberty League leading St. Lawrence University this afternoon. The Saints shot 57.1 percent from the field on the way to a 91-73 conference win.
Although the Statesmen made two more field goals than SLU (30-28), the home team was able to walk away with its seventh consecutive win thanks to an exceptional effort at the free throw line. The Saints made more than twice as many free throws (30-of-36) as Hobart attempted (14). St. Lawrence also enjoyed a 32-22 advantage on the glass.
The Statesmen (9-7, 4-3) held a 12-10 lead about five minutes into the game, but the Saints broke the contest open with a 13-2 run. Kyle Kobis led the charge with five points as SLU turned the two-point deficit into a nine-point lead.

Sean McKinless followed with a 3-pointer, St. Lawrence went on another run, this time outscoring Hobart 12-2, including nine points at the free throw line. SLU held a 49-31 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Saints pushed their advantage to as many as 21 before the Statesmen were able to trim the deficit to 13 with just over four minutes remaining. Unfortunately, Hobart got no closer.
