HENRIETTA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team put four players in double figures, but Rochester Institute of Technology rode the hot hand of AJ Horde to a 90-74 victory in Clark Gym tonight. He scored a game-high 38 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and handed out a team-high five assists.
First-year guard
Tucker Lescoe paced the Statesmen with 17 points, including five 3-pointers. Sophomore
Colin Dougherty added 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Junior
Luke Ruddy and sophomore
Matt Walsh chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Horde was 12-of-25 from the field, making 10-of-17 from beyond the 3-point arc, and was also 4-for-4 from the free throw line. He also grabbed seven rebounds, notched a team-high five assists, and had three steals. Reserves Jaymee Rosser and Wyatt Smith contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Lescoe got Hobart off to a fast start, scoring nine points in the opening five minutes as the Statesmen jumped out to a 19-5 lead. Horde and the Tigers came roaring back with a 16-1 run that saw the junior score eight points. RIT (10-8, 4-5) led by as many as six in the first half before the Statesmen rallied, tying the game at 40 on a 3-pointer by Lescoe on the final bucket of the half.
With the game tied at 42 early in the second half, the Tigers scored eight straight points to take the lead for good. Horde started the run with back-to-back 3-pointers.
The Statesmen used an 8-0 run of their own to make it a one-point game with just over five minutes remaining. RIT responded with a game-clinching 20-5 run that saw Horde contribute eight points, including two more triples.
Hobart (9-8, 4-4) will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 27, when the Statesmen host Vassar. Tipoff in Bristol Gym is scheduled for 8 p.m.
